Facial masks play an important role in the management of your skin. They are designed to complement the products you use daily, especially if your skin does not feel at its best.

Masks can be used as an instant pick-up before going out or for targeted benefits since they are formulated with skin types in mind as well as a broad spectrum of concerns.
Since they are used occasionally, they are also cost-effective at enhancing your skincare routine.

PHYT’S MASKS
A facial mask is a skincare treatment formulated to target specific skin types and areas of concern. Masks are loaded with beneficial active ingredients and can vary in form, texture, concentration and results. For most of Phyt’s masks, the texture is usually thicker than a cream. This thickness creates a barrier between the skin and the elements, enhancing hydration and the penetration of active ingredients into the skin – that’s why you need to leave them on a little bit longer to do their job.

MASK BENEFITS
A mask can be just a relaxing pampering experience, or a highly effective answer to specific skin concerns. When you select a mask, it’s best to look first at your skin type and what results you would like to achieve. You can use a mask as an instant pick-up or see it as part of a longer-term skincare routine for the health of your skin.

Most of PHYT’S skincare ranges include a mask. These masks have been designed to address and correct specific issues: lack of vitality, water loss, airborne pollution, lack of firmness, dull complexion, excess sebum or inflammation.
Masks complement and enhance the benefits of moisturising creams and serums and contribute to your overall skin health. They are formulated to work in synergy with other products of the same range.

SKIN TYPES AND PHYT’S MASKS
Oily skin will benefit from the Aromaclear mask formulated with Amber powder and charcoal for gentle exfoliation and to draw out impurities from pores.
Dehydrated skin should try the Aqua mask formulated with two different molecular weight hyaluronic acids to instantly boost the water content in the upper layers of the skin while significantly reducing water loss from its surface. Your skin will look plumper with less visible lines and wrinkles.

Mature skin will experience a visibly improved tone and texture with the Aromalliance mask. This mask is formulated with nourishing Hazelnut oil, regenerating essential oils and plant extracts. End results: the skin is smoother, softer, plumper.

Extremely dry skin will benefit from the nourishing and soothing oils of Phyt’ssima comfort mask – a concoction of repairing Argan and Hemp oils.  This particular mask can also be used as an after-sun treatment.

– Those who live in polluted urban environments have not been forgotten and can restore radiance to their skin with Phyt’s Anti-Pollution Reviderm mask.

Skin sensitivity and redness due to inflammation can be visibly calmed down by Sensi hypoallergenic mask formulated with soothing ingredients.

– For dull skin with pigmentation try Phyt’s White Bio-Active mask which contains a patented blend of plant extracts and essential oils that work on restoring skin brightness and radiance.

– Finally, there is a mask specifically designed to refresh and tone eye contour affected by dark circles and puffiness: Phyt’Sublim Mask

WHEN DO I USE A FACE MASK?
See masks as an opportunity to pamper yourself and give your skin a chance to restore itself. Apply your chosen mask once or twice a week while enjoying this time to relax and unwind – perfect if you find yourself stuck at home during a rainy day.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO APPLY A FACE MASK
For optimum results, any type of face mask should be applied to clean skin, so be sure to cleanse your skin first. You can use your fingers or a brush (you tend to use less product with a brush but some masks need to be applied thickly, so check the instructions).
Most of Phyt’s masks have to be left on for 10 to 15 minutes (do not leave them on for longer, just because they are 100% natural and organic does not mean that they are not very active) and leave the ingredients to work their magic.
All Phyt’s masks are best removed with a warm damp cloth (not hot) in gentle, circular motions, but they can also be rinsed off under the shower.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MASK WORK HARDER
Most of Phyt’s skincare ranges include a serum (powerful concentrate of active ingredients) – do not hesitate to use them under your mask to enhance results (in that case, apply the serum first)

There is something both routine and ritualistic about applying a face mask. It can provide you with that extra skincare boost when your skin needs a little TLC. If you never seemed to make time to use face masks in the “good old days”, use your “stuck-at-home” time to treat yourself … your skin will love it.

Phyt’s serums and moisturisers are formulated with plant oils that are well-known for their soothing, restorative and nourishing properties. Here are the main ones:

Sunflower oil:
Sunflower oil is a good choice for those with sensitivities and allergies. When applied, it forms a natural barrier on top of the skin that keeps moisture in. Sunflower oil is rich in linoleic acid, oleic and palmitic acids which make it a soothing oil. It is also high in antioxidants – especially vitamin E – and minerals that help the formation of new skin cells.

Wheat Germ oil:
Wheat germ oil has one of the highest Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) levels among all the vegetable oils. It is rich in fatty acids (linoleic, palmitic, oleic, linoleic or omega-3 and 6) and minerals. Fatty acids make this oil a very good moisturiser for dry and dehydrated skin. Vitamin E neutralises free radicals and prevent them damaging collagen and elastin. Vit E repairs and regenerates cells and skin tissues, helping the skin stay firm and elastic. This vitamin has also strong anti-inflammatory properties making it perfect for all skin conditions caused by inflammation (psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis etc.).

Hemp Oil:
Hemp oil is extracted from Hemp seeds. Its main benefits for the skin are hydration, suppleness, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing. This oil has a high content of fatty acid (60% of linoleic acid, Omega 6) that help reduce the loss of water from the skin. It does not clog the pores and can even re-balance oily skin. Hemp oil has also anti-inflammatory properties and it helps increase peripheral blood circulation.
Fatty acids contained in Hemp oil help repair the damages caused by free radicals. These acids are the building blocks of healthy cells membranes. They are essential for a healthy skin barrier which gives you a healthy youthful skin.
Hemp oil penetrate the skin quickly and feels like a dry oil. It does not leave an oily film on the skin.

Hazelnut Oil:
An oil loaded with nourishing vitamins and essential fatty acids that help hydrate, protect and nourish the skin. A high content of Vitamin E helps boost collagen production which improves elasticity. The skin looks smoother and fine lines are less visible.
Hazelnut oil contains tannins which have astringent properties to help dry oily skin. It is an oil that can be used on sensitive skin.

Apricot Kernel Oil:
Apricot kernel oil is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants. A high content of omega-6 gamma linoleic acid gives this oil great moisturising properties.  Vitamins A and E help the regeneration of skin cells and collagen production. This oil leaves the skin feeling soft and replenished without feeling greasy. Nourishing Apricot kernel oil helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Argan Oil:
Argan oil is an organic product extracted from the kernels of the organ tree which is native to Morocco. Argan oil has a high content of fatty acids and vitamin E which can help strengthen tissues in skin and restore elasticity. It absorbs easily, is non greasy and non-irritating – great properties for a moisturiser.

Avocado oil:
Another oil with a high content of omega-3 fatty acid, vitamins A, D and E. These compounds make it a wonderful moisturising agent.
Avocado oil is also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. They help soothing inflammation such sun damage and age spots, as well as skin condition such as eczema.

Evening Primrose oil:
A cold-pressed oil extracted from the seed of Evening Primrose flower. The main chemical compounds of this oil are fatty acids (omega-6 and 9), palmitic acid and stearic acid. Omega-6 and 9 have anti-inflammatory properties. They are nourishing and soothing. Palmitic acid has emollient properties to soften the skin. Stearic acid s also a softening agent.
Evening Primrose oil shows soothing and moisturising properties. It enhances elasticity of the skin as well as its texture.

In our current context, we are witnessing the resurgence of chemical sprays used in our living environment and daily. When chemicals are used in that way, droplets are produced that can remain suspended in air and can often be carried by wind away from the target area. This is known as ‘spray drift’.

In an open environment, the likelihood of these droplets reaching our skin is remote. In a closed environment such as public transport, office spaces, shops, schools and even our home, these droplets can affect our skin.

Other contributing factors are currently increasing skin exposure to harmful substances. Excessive hand washing, the use of hand sanitizers, frequent exposure to chemical sprays in the workplace, but also public transports, cafes and even in places where you are not anticipating chemicals like day-spas and wellness centres. All of these, on their own or synergetically, can change the integrity or function of the skin.

Since there is a clear correlation between spikes in air pollution and increases in the number of people suffering from skin problems such as acne, hives and eczema, the unusual amount of airborne chemicals we will be exposed to over the next few months is not something we should ignore if we want to keep our skin looking young and healthy.

How to protect your skin from these chemical drifts?

Skin is supported and maintain healthy by a balanced diet and dietary supplements if required. It is protected by adopting a thorough daily cleansing routine. In recent years, products have been developed specifically to remove toxins from the skin surface then preventing re-adhesion of airborne pollutants. A morning and evening routine using Phyt’s Anti-Pollution Cleansing Gel will remove toxins and other chemical particles from your skin. This The three-step galenic absorbs and removes the microscopic particles that accumulated during the day and restores radiance to the skin. Upon application, the gel becomes an oily emulsion that binds to impurities. Add water to transform this oily substance into a milky emulsion that easily rinses debris from the skin’s surface. Once the cleansing step is complete, the skin is soft to the touch, looking healthy and radiant.

Active ingredients: Marine Oligosaccharide: anti-pollution, anti-adhesion and anti-free radical. | Aloe Vera* and Aloe Vera beads: hydrating |Brown Algae extract: increases oxygenation and cell energy synthesis | Acerola*: for radiant complexion | Plankton extract: boosts cell renewal | Avocado*, Sunflower* and Olive* oils: preserve skin moisture | Hemp* oil: rich in Vitamin E, chlorophyll and fatty acids, help cell renewal | Vitamin E and extract of Rosemary* leaves: antioxidant | Chlorophyll of natural origin: stimulates oxygenation.

We typically think of skin only as it relates to beauty — but it’s actually essential to our overall health, too. After all, it’s the largest organ in the body and the primary interface between us and pretty much everything outside of us.

Our skin is also home to a vast array of microbes, and research is just now beginning to piece together the vital role they play in our health.

Microbiome: What is it?

The microbiome is a term that refers to the collection of microorganisms in a particular environment, such as in the body or on the skin. Microbiomes are specialized and vary according to factors like pH and moisture in the host. These microorganisms, often referred to as bugs or flora, perform essential roles; from aiding the absorption of certain nutrients to providing immunity and even balancing mental health. Learning to nourish and live in harmony with the bugs in our microbiome is a critical component to maintaining healthy skin.

Skin and the microbiome

Most people think the helpful bacteria that reside in our bodies are mainly in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. However, our skin is also covered with them. The skin supports a delicate ecosystem of microorganisms, including yeast and bacteria.

In fact, one square inch of skin holds up to 500 million microorganisms. As much as it may disturb us to think of our skin as being covered with tiny bugs, we should be happy to have them on board. They provide immunity and protect our skin from unwanted harmful bacteria and other invading pathogens.

There are several different microbiome locations throughout the body, and recent research suggests they are all connected and communicate with each other.

As most nutritionists and skin care professionals are aware, gut health is often reflected in the skin.

When gut flora is out of balance, people experience allergies, acne, rashes and increased symptoms of rosacea and psoriasis, all signs of underlying inflammation.

Similarly, when the skin is stripped of its healthy flora through aggressive treatments or the use of harsh chemicals, the same manifestations result.

The microbiome runs deep

Once upon a time, we thought that our microbiome only existed on the surface of the skin and that the deeper dermal layers were sterile. We now know that’s not true. Scientists identified bacteria colonies all the way down to the subcutaneous fat layer! While more research is needed, it appears that it’s here that the most intimate communication between the microbiome and our immune system takes place.

From what we can tell, a healthy skin microbiome protects against infection in much the same way a good gut microbiome does, by crowding out the overgrowth of pathogenic organisms.

How to nurture and keep your skin microbiome healthy

You’re probably familiar with the idea that excess cleanliness and loads of antibiotics and other medications can damage the gut microbiome and could increase the risk of allergy and autoimmunity, among other issues. This is called the “hygiene hypothesis,” and there’s a lot of research to support this important concept.

Ditto for the skin microbiome. Excess use of antimicrobial hand sanitizers, soaps and skincare products loaded with harmful chemicals and/or synthetics ingredients (microbiome does NOT recognize synthetic ingredients) contribute to skin dysbiosis.

An imbalanced microbiome, or skin dysbiosis, is associated with many diseases, including psoriasis, allergies, eczema, contact dermatitis, acne, poor wound healing, skin ulcers, dandruff, yeast and fungal infections, rosacea, and accelerated skin aging.

Plus, anything damaging to your gut microbiome or immune system will likely also influence happening to the skin.

The skin microbiome prefers a relatively acidic environment (pH around 5.0), which also inhibits the growth of pathogens.

The skin microbiome also aids in wound healing, limits exposure to allergens and UV radiation, minimizes oxidative damage and keeps the skin plump and moist.

Skincare has evolved more in the past ten years than it has in over a hundred years. Women just like you from all around the world are becoming more and more aware of the real dangers of big-brand skincare products, packed with junk you can’t pronounce, and your body can’t process.

Unfortunately, millions of women worldwide inadvertently smother themselves with poison daily. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and naturally absorbs whatever you put on it. Studies reveal startling evidence that various cosmetics, shampoos, sunscreens, face-washes, lotions, and more contain ingredients which have been linked to things like hormonal disruptions and even cancer.

What skincare ingredients should you avoid?

  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
  • BHA
  • Oxybenzone
  • Aminophenol

It is said that you should get a facial once every month. This regime is important if you wish to maintain a fresh, natural, healthy looking skin. If you feel lazy in conducting the entire process of facial, you can always go to a spa or beauty salon and have a relaxing facial done. It is also important to note that you don’t just go for any kind of facial. It is preferred that you get a facial from products that contain Hyaluronic acid and Chlorophyll. You will find it much effective in keeping your skin hydrated while leaving your beautiful skin to glow. Here are some reasons as to why facials are important for maintaining healthy and vibrant skin:

Slows Down The Aging Process

As each day passes by, we get older and it shows on our skin. With regular facials from a spa that uses natural skincare products containing Hyaluronic acid and Chlorophyll, you will notice a vast difference in your skin. Your dark spots and wrinkles will greatly diminish and your body will boost collagen production.

Helps To Exfoliate The Skin

One of the things organic facials do is exfoliate your skin and remove all the dead skin cells. You are left with a fresh and glowing skin. When you exfoliate your skin regularly, you encourage the turnover of new cells, which helps clear up acne and reduce the fine lines on your skin.

Promotes Relaxation

Life today is very much hectic. In times like these, having a relaxing and natural skincare facial is just the thing to help you distract yourself from the stress in your life. Getting an hour of facial will help you relax and stay at peace so you can escape from it all. Not only does a good facial help you look good but also help you feel great. The massage is just what you need to help you relax and get in a peaceful state of mind.

Facial treatments not only relax you but also stimulate lymphatic drainage. Doing so, it removes the toxins out of your body and encourages healthy blood circulation so you are left with a healthy looking skin.

Skin Rejuvenation

The process of an organic facial treatment results in skin rejuvenation. It could be better said, renewed, fresh skin. A facial improves the look of the skin and gives it a healthy glow. It also gives a balanced complexion. You may not instantly see the results, but eventually, your skin gets restored.

Deep Cleansing

Washing your face with your facewash is not enough to keep all the oil buildup, dirt, and toxins removed from your skin. You need a better and deeper method of cleansing that will thoroughly remove all the germs and bacteria that could lead to skin issues. A good exfoliator will do away with all the dead skin cells right from your skin and clear your pores so the Hyaluronic acid and Chlorophyll organic skincare products are fully absorbed in your skin to make it look and feel smoother and softer.
